For all the scary predictions about lines, it was pretty painless. I arrived at the polling state around 7am. I had my cell phone ready with the number I needed to dial into a 9:15am conference call at work, in case I was still in line at that point. Walking up I saw a line that stretched out the door (still not a huge line, maybe an hour wait). Turns out (as a helpful exiting voter pointed out almost as soon as I’d arrived), the line had formed at the A-L table, and had gotten long enough that people could no longer see that it originated only at that table leaving the table for voters with last names M-Z empty. Hearing that I simply walked up, told the lady my name, and voted. The whole experience (from arrival til departure) took maybe 5 minutes.
My parents had a longer wait, but not too bad. They called to tell me they have voted this morning around 6:20am, after arriving at their polling location at around 5:30am. Hopefully everybody else’s voting experience is just as easy (though clearly it won’t be for everybody). I left being prepared to “work” from line, and ended up voting and heading back home to wait an hour before I even needed to leave for work!
