What Were They Thinking? 0
Without clicking for more, can you guess what well-known product this is the new logo for?

Go ahead, guess. No? Ok, well at least take a stab at what possible industry or function this product serves.
If this is your first time see the new logo and you guessed “Photoshop,” then you are right and I am terribly surprised. More likely however you were way off and it wouldn’t be your fault because, for a company that revolutionized the graphic design world, Adobe is showing precious little knowledge of the trade with this new logo.

As far as I can tell the “P” graphic is intended to be a speech bubble. What does PHOTOshop have to do with speech? I think it’d be just fine if this were the logo for some new blogging platform, but for a software which is predominately intended to the manipulation of photos (and with the new extended, it adds some video capabilities, but still, it’s imagery, not sound)? I think not.
Secondly, I know all the cool kids are making their logos look all “glassy” and “gel,” but Adobe is just trying too hard with this one. This is 2007, and as far as graphic design goes, less is more. Chunky beveling is out. If you want to make your logo “glassy” (after all we must impress our friends), slap a white block at about 20% opacity on the top half of it, maybe (if you’re feeling really snazzy) add a slight inner shadow, then call it a day.
Finally, what’s with the tag line: “See What’s Possible.” Ok, it has the word “see” in it, so it’s at least that much more on topic than the graphical element, but could we get any more vague? It’s as if the designer who did this for Adobe (dear god, don’t tell me there was more than one!), simply looked back through his portfolio, found something he did for some futurist themed discussion forum (circa 2003), and slapped the word “Photoshop on to it.
Adobe, you know I love you, but PLEASE reconsider this logo.
