Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stupidity

July 19, 2007

Ok, I’ve never got into Harry Potter, but I realize how big of a deal it is for some and think that’s fine. There are alot worse things they could be getting excited about. I’ve even seen all the movies, except for the latest, as The Boyfriend™ wanted to see them.  So I’m not trying to rain on the parade of anybody under Harry’s spell.

That said, I will never understand things like this ebay item.  I’m guessing the book retails for $30, maybe $35 dollars since it’s hardback.  Is getting it early really worth the additional $965-$970?  Plus, the book is released Saturday, today is Thursday.  If it’s shipped with overnight delivery that means you’ll be getting it only a few hours before the rest of the world anyways.  That, of course, is if you ignore the fact that the auction doesn’t even end for two days!!

I guess to each his own, just don’t be complaining about black magic when you realize you’re $1000 poorer, watching your friends read their copies while you wait on yours to be delivered.

  1. I hate eBay.

Mr. Beale bought the book on Saturday morning, at Borders. “40% off” was blaring on the front with a big sticker. So I think he ended up paying $21.

BTW, we did see the new movie last weekend and it was actually pretty good. I’m not a big fan, I go for the hubby of course, and the last two HP films were so lousy I swore I’d never go to another one. But this one was actually pretty good.
